Avis Eileen Groth Obituary (1928

Selah- Avis Eileen Groth, age 85, passed peacefully in her home and went to be in the arms of her Savior on Friday, January 10, 2014. Avis was born December 15th, 1928 in Wilmot, South Dakota to parents Richard and Signe Bremseth. She graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1947 while working at the Soo Pass Dude Ranch. She later lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota where she worked as a theatre candy hawker while modeling for an agency. She was also "Miss Northwest" at the Water Carnival in Detroit Lakes in 1949. Avis met the love of her life, Carsten Narve Groth in 1950 and they were married on October 13th, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ogema, Minnesota. Their story together began with Avis catching Carstens eye while riding her horse on the county roads by their families' farms. They raised six children while plowing fields and tending to their 500-acre farm. In 1969, they sold their farm and moved out west to the State of Washington where they settled in Selah. Avis worked as a cook for the Selah School District for 24 years and loved every moment with her co- workers and the children she served. Avis loved God, her church, horseback riding, camping, shopping and lunch with friends, dancing with her husband, and being surrounded by her family. Her most prized moments were spent with her children, her precious grand children and her great grandchildren. In her later years she treasured her sweet dog Charlie, her constant companion, who never left her side. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Carsten Narve Groth, her mother and father Signe and Richard, her loving brothers George and Marvin Bremseth, and her sister in law and best-friend Mickey Bremseth. She is survived by her dear children; sons, Dana Groth, Craig Groth, Thomas Groth, Lee (Carol) Groth, and Robert (Tiffany) Groth, and daughter JoAnn (James) Dees. She is also remembered and cherished by her 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. A visitation will be held Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 3-7 PM at Shaw & Sons in Yakima. Funeral service will be Friday, January 17, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in Selah. Those wishing to honor Avis' memory may donate to Peace Lutheran Church, which was her church home for 45 years.
