Loyd S. Thomas Obituary (1928

Loyd Thomas passed away May 18, 2013, in Selah, WA. Loyd was born May 10, 1928, in Redmond, OR, to Evelyn and George Thomas. His family settled in Zillah, in 1929. Loyd attended Zillah area schools and loved playing basketball and football for Zillah High School where he graduated in 1947. After service in the US Navy, Loyd went to work in the oil fields for Shell Oil in California. He returned to Zillah, and started a career in construction. In 1952, Loyd married Ann McQuatters in Hermiston, OR. They lived in Yakima for 13 years and then Selah for the past 44 years where they raised three children. Loyd was a member of the Carpenters Union for 60 years and worked in commercial construction on jobs large and small around the Yakima Valley. He was proud of his work on the Columbia River dams and supervision of the construction of projects like the Sun Dome. Loyd had a passion for antique cars and was a member of the Horseless Carriage Club of America for over 50 years. He drove his Model T in parades around the Yakima Valley and on car tours with his club. Loyd was also a Mason and a Shriner. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ann Thomas, his three children: Lynne Wisse (Carl), Jim Thomas, and Jerry Thomas (Ann); and his grandchildren: Jennifer Wisse, Travis Wisse, Kellen Thomas and Asha Thomas. A memorial service and reception will be held at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors, 201 N. Second Street, Yakima, Friday, May 24, at 11:00 a.m. with a procession to Terrace Heights Memorial Park, and a gravesite service following.
