Erma Margaret DeBlasio

–

Yakima, Washington

Erma DeBlasio passed away July 22, 2016. She was born in Waterville, WA on February 1, 1924, to Henry and Alvina Planetz. On February 16, 1944, she married Larry DeBlasio and moved to their homestead in west Yakima. They grew pears, cherries, walnuts and other fruits and berries and always had a large garden. Erma was often heard to say "Nothing tastes as good as fresh produce from the garden."
Erma worked with Larry at Parker Sand and Gravel as bookkeeper until they sold it in the 1970's. Following Larry's death in 1988 she continued to run the family farm and never lost her love of gardening and was busy outside until shortly before her death.
Cruising and travel were among her favorite pastimes. She visited every continent during her 30 cruises and had traveled across the country by train and car.
Erma was an active Washington State Grange member and very proud of her award for 75 years of membership. She also was active in her garden club and a member of Central Lutheran Church. She was loved by all who met her and known as 'grandma' to all the neighbor children.
Erma is survived by her three children: Vic (Jane) DeBlasio, Sue Stewart, and Ann (Steve) Shirkey; her sister Helen Bradley; four grandchildren: David (Stacie) DeBlasio, Jeff (Lisette) DeBlasio, Kevin (Erica) DeFields, and Renee (Dave) Soprano; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Larry, her parents, brother Elmer and sister Agnes Planetz.
Services will be held on July 30, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the Central Lutheran church. Visitation will be offered the previous evening, Friday, July 29, from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m.at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors. Burial will be at West Hills Memorial Park.
