Janet Renee Lydin Bass, born in Yakima, Washington, on May 10, 1966, passed peacefully on August 9, 2026. Her faith in Jesus was clear to everyone, throughout her battle with cancer.
Jan, the youngest of three girls, born to Leonard and Maxine Lydin, grew up on an apple orchard in Tieton. She graduated from Highland High School in 1984.
While working for Dr. Robert Pasa in his dental office, she met Dean Bass and they were married in 1987.
Jan’s organizational skills and attention to details were evident in her professional life. Over the years, she worked as a receptionist for Westminster Presbyterian Church, as a medical transcriptionist, as a church administrative secretary at West Valley Church, and as a customer service representative and bookkeeper for PK Supply. Jan attended West Valley Church all her life, where she and her husband, Dean, served in many capacities over the years.
A loving wife and mother, Jan was a constant support to her husband, Dean, and raised their children to love the Lord. She was “Mimi” to her beloved grandchildren, and they loved spending time with her. She was a wonderful homemaker, and she enjoyed gardening, preserving, camping with family and friends, and travel.
She is preceded in death by her father, Leonard Lydin. She is survived by her husband, Dean Bass, sons, Isaac (Kristin), Nate (Samara), and daughter, Rachel (Robby) Bale, her mother, Maxine Lydin, sisters, Karen (Tom) Rand, and Cheryl Mellotte, nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 10:00am, at West Valley Church (7109 W. Nob Hill Blvd., Yakima, WA).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made payable to West Valley Church in Jan’s name and sent in care of Shaw & Sons Funeral Home (201 N. 2nd St., Yakima, WA 98901), who is caring for the family. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.shawandsons.com.
