Jovita "Jo" Hernandez Castilleja, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, wife, daughter, sister, Tia, devoted teacher, farmworker, and advocate. Jovita peacefully journeyed home to her Heavenly Father, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, while surrounded by her children and family. She joins her husband, Luis, son, Richard, daughters, Julie and Guadalupe, grandson, Luis, great-grandsons, Aiden, Xavier, and Jaiden, mother, Altagracia, father, Magdaleno, many siblings, and extended family. She is survived by sisters, Phyllis Galaviz Aguilar and Carmen Ruvalcaba, children, Irene (Vince) Gutierrez, Alice (Ray) Lara, Ofelia (Robert) Resendez, John (Becky) Castilleja, Abel (Jan) Castilleja, Lucy (Mark) Hoffmann, Livia Castilleja, Romauldo (Heidi) Castilleja, Fabian (Lisa) Castilleja, Alana (Joel) Delgado, Rose (Garry) Tabor, Mary (Matthew) Winterfeld, Lisa Castilleja, Michael Castilleja (Linda) Dianne Castilleja, beloved wife of Richard, 100 grandchildren, 114 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren. Jovita, Mom, Gramma meant so much to so many; she will be greatly missed. A Public Viewing will be held at Shaw & Sons Funeral Home (201 N. 2nd Street, Yakima, WA) on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 4:00-6:00pm. A Rosary will be offered at 6:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Toppenish, Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 11:00 am, followed by Interment at Elmwood Cemetery in Toppenish. A Reception will be held at Liberty Theatre Banquet Hall in Toppenish. In honor of our mother, we request that all guests wear bright, celebratory colors.
