Karen FLorence Jackson Obituary (2024)

Karen F. (Smith) Jackson was born on May 27, 1936, to E.L. and Phyllis Smith, in Coulee City, Washington. She passed away on February 12, 2024, in Vancouver, Washington. The family moved to Yakima in 1946 and this is where Karen lived for most of the remaining years of her life. She moved to Vancouver, Washington in 2017 to be closer to her son, Brian, and daughter-in-law, Laurie, and lived in their home for the last three years of her life. As a young mother, Karen was very active in Cub Scouts and served as a Den Mother. She and husband, Jay, enjoyed square dancing and were a joy to watch. Karen retired from the Washington Department of Revenue in 2002. They loved to travel. After Jay passed away, Karen bought a small motorhome in 2003 and took a two-month trip to Alaska, caravanning with her brother-in-law, David, and sister, Saundra. In 2008, Karen began her journey of faith, accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior, and was baptized in early 2009. She was active at West Side Church, volunteering at the welcome counter, until her move to Vancouver. Karen is preceded in death by both parents, sister, Noreen Halsey, and husband, Jay Jackson. She is survived by her sister, Saundra (David) Gale, sons, Steven (Tonie) Fund, and Brian (Laurie) Chaplin, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 10:30am at West Side Church (6901 Summitview Ave, Yakima, WA 98908). Karen was a Teddy Bear collector. In her memory, we are suggesting that you bring a new Teddy Bear to be given to law enforcement to be used to comfort children in need.
