Laurice Lee Onustock Obituary (1942

Laurice Lee Onustock, 84, of Yakima, Washington, passed away peacefully at home on May 29, 2026, surrounded by the loving care of her children. Laurice was born on April 16, 1942, in Yakima to Joseph "Kermit" Melton and Lenora (Barr) Melton. She attended Adams Elementary School and Washington Junior High, before graduating from A.C. Davis High School, in 1960. She went on to earn a degree in Elementary Education from Central Washington University. While attending college, she worked at Hanford. Following graduation, Laurice dedicated her career to teaching in the Yakima School District, where she inspired generations of students until her retirement in 1997. On March 17, 1962, she married her junior high sweetheart, Richard "Dick" Onustock, in Yakima. Together they built a life centered on family, creativity, and friendship. Laurice was known for her love of hosting gatherings that brought family and friends together. She had a passion for genealogy and research, and she enjoyed traveling, reading, solving puzzles, and taking on endless crafting projects. She especially enjoyed designing woodworking projects for Dick to build and creating stained glass pieces alongside him. Laurice will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her years of service as an educator, her generous hospitality, and the countless lives she touched through her kindness, creativity, and friendship. Laurice is preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick" Onustock, parents, Joseph and Lenora Melton, brother, Gary Melton, and sister, Janice Swett. She is survived by her daughter, Tammy (Mike) Bonnett, sons, Rick Onustock, and Mick Onustock, grandchildren, Trey, Mickey, Katie, Shelbi, Corey, and Mikey, and nine great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank beloved caregivers, Liz, Ashley, Christina, and Tyla. They would especially like to thank her loving niece, Melia Franck.
