Linda McCown Moore

–

Yakima, Washington

Linda Louise McCown Moore was born January 6, 1939, in Crane, Texas, to Robert and Bertie McCown.

She was an avid tennis player and an excellent student, graduating from Patti Welder High School, Victoria, Texas in 1957. She then attended the University of Texas, graduating with a degree in education, concentrating in science. As a young teacher, she accepted a position at her former high school, where she taught her brother, Bill McCown. She went on to get her masters degree in education at Syracuse University, New York, where she met and married Rich Rimbach. They spent a year in Vermont before moving across the country to Washington to teach and be near the mountains she so loved. Together they had three daughters.

Linda taught biology and chemistry at Jason Lee Junior High, as well as Wilson High School in Tacoma, Washington, where she met and married Carl Moore, who also taught there. The two shared a love of hiking, backpacking, camping, orienteering, and mountain climbing. They had so many adventures, including trekking in Nepal, hiking through the Swiss Alps, and across England and Scotland, as well as their beloved Mt. Rainier, to name a few.

They enjoyed many summers hiking and climbing in Leadville, Colorado, where they summited numerous 14,000 peaks (Fourteeners). They were also avid orienteers, winning numerous championships in both the U.S. and Europe.

Linda enjoyed years of vegetable gardening, bird watching, reading, and her eight wonderful grandchildren. She attended many of their activities, cherished their visits, their adventures, and was a wonderful support to them. Linda and Carl enjoyed 31 years together.

Linda leaves behind her three daughters, Deidre Stroosma (Sven), Heidi Tollackson (Rick), Amy Hodgson (Jeff), her eight grandchildren, Aaron, Casey, Noah, Ryan (Bre), Kayla, Sydney, Kelly, and Haley, and her brother, Bill McCown (Darlene), Chris, Brian, and Katie. She is preceded in death by Carl Moore.
