Raymond Salsedo Santiago aged 86, passed away on September 5, 2024 in Puyallup Washington with his daughter by his side. born on December 31, 1937, Raymond lived a life marked by dedication, love, and respect for others, coupled with a sharp wit that brought laughter to those around him. Raymond proudly served in the Navy from 1955 to 1963, where he developed a strong sense of discipline and commitment that he carried through out his life. His service years were significant as he met his beloved wife Carol during a layover in Seattle. The couple married and shared many joyful years until her passing. After his military service, Raymond embarked on a successful career as a Journeyman House Painter and and was a lifelong member of the Bay area Painters and Tapers Association. Known for his reliability, extensive knowledge and remarkably fast painting skills, often completing an entire house in a day! Raymond was a respected figure in his professional field. Raymond was deeply committed to his faith, evidenced by his collection of crosses and the cross necklace he wore daily, symbolizing his spiritual devotion. Raymond's hobbies were a significant aspect of his life. He was an avid participant in car shows, often winning accolades such as 1st Place trophies or Best of Show awards for his meticulously restored vehicles, including a '47 Chevy coupe and a '65 Chevy Impala SS. An enthusiast of 50's music, he enjoyed singing karaoke and dancing, especially during nights out with his life partner Shirley. His love for fishing led to many cherished moments with his daughter Kathleen, catching striped bass, catfish and trout that would become the centerpiece of family meals. Additionally, Raymond shared a close bond with his grandson Ronald, with whom he played pool weekly at the Harmon Center, fostering a relationship built on mutual love and respect. Through his contributions to family, work and community, Raymond's legacy will live on in the hearts that he touched. Raymond is survived by his brother Danny, sisters, Dorothy and Jenny, daughter Kathleen, grandsons, Ronald and William and wife Shena as well as his life partner, Shirley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Dominga, brothers Peter and Nicholas, and his wife Carol. Services for Raymond will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 11:30 am at Shaw and Sons Funeral Home in Yakima, Washington with interment to follow at Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima, Washington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Veterans of Foreign WARS (VFW) in memory of Raymond, honoring his dedication and service.
