Rex Harold Crumrine Obituary (1945 - 2023)

Rex H. Crumrine born November 30, 1945, in Wichita, Kansas, entered the arms of Jesus surrounded by his family on September 6, 2023, in Yakima, Washington. Rex was raised and ultimately adopted by his grandparents, Arvel and Letha Crumrine, at the age of 10. Rex spent much of his elementary age in Shriners Hospital, having contracted Polio at age eight. It was during this time that he grew to love reading and learning. He attended high school in Powell, Wyoming, graduating in 1964. He was in the honor society and a member of the Spanish Club all four years of high school. After high school Rex attended Northwest Nazarene University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies. Rex then moved to Yakima, Washington, where he met Diane Peterson through mutual friends. He married Diane on August 16, 1969, and had three children, Aaron, Amber, and Annika. Rex began his career working in social services and held numerous positions with Department of Social and Health Services, EPIC/Headstart, St. Elizabeth/Providence Hospital, Waddell and Reed, finally retiring from the Bureau of Reclamation as a Grants Manager. Rex also volunteered time in the churches he attended, West Valley, Selah, Naches, Bethel Nazarene, as a teacher, board member, sound technician. He would often downplay his teaching, saying he simply asked questions. He was involved in numerous other volunteer activities with West Side Christian/Riverside School, Cast for Kids fishing events, and Selah Mayors Prayer Breakfasts. Rex never let the physical challenges of polio ever stop him from doing anything he put his mind to. Rex is survived by his wife of 54 years, Diane (Peterson) Crumrine, and three children, Aaron (Jacqui) Crumrine, Amber Calvert, and Annika (Jeremy) Crumrine-Hammer, eight grandchildren, Peyton, Kaden, Aliyah, and Mosaic Crumrine, Allen and Cady Calvert, Lucas and Boen Hammer, and one great-granddaughter, Adeline Calvert. Rex is also survived by his brother, Max (Patricia) Crumrine, and half-brother, David (Cindy) Gates, and numerous nieces and nephews. Rex is preceded in death by his parents, Arvel and Letha Crumrine, brothers, Robert, Kenneth, and Charles Crumrine, and sister, Geraldine Caughran. A Memorial Service will be held on October 7, 2023, at 11:0am, at Selah Covenant Church in Selah, Washington. A Facebook livestream will be available.
