Rosario 'Rosie' Contreras

–

Yakima, Washington

Rosario Contreras-Rodriguez was called home to the Lord on Friday, October 4th, 2019.

Rosie, as she was lovingly known, was born in Mexico and was the first child received at the Orfanage La Providencia de Ninos in Hermosillo, Sonora Mexico. She grew up at the orphanage, received an education, and as an adult she traveled to Los Angeles, CA. She came to the Woody household and helped raise Christopher and Christina. They became her family and she continued expanding her knowledge by going to night school, mastering the English language and making many friends wherever she went. The family moved to Yakima, WA in 1991, Rosie did not hesitate to move and found herself right at home in the West Valley Community. She returned to school, received her GED, worked behind the scenes FUNdraising with the American Classics Car Club and local charities. Rosie has been a staple in the community for a long time. Many know her from taking her walks along 72nd Ave in West Valley for the past 29 years come snow, rain, or shine! Rosie made many friends and touched many lives through her daily visits at Wrays Thirftway Meadowbrook and the Local Shell Gas Station-Mini Mart. She often looked in on our elderly friends in our community, to ensure they were okay and their needs were met.

She enjoyed traveling to different states, visiting friends, spending time with her adopted family, cooking and conjuring up her wonderful Mexican dishes from her youth, experimenting with Italian, Chinese and American cuisine. Rosie had a true love of music, singing, and nature and loved animals of all kinds!

Rosie was an incredibly kind hearted, selfless person. She was always there for you no matter what. Rosie had a servants heart, was very grateful and gave even when she had nothing to give!

Many are chosen and others quietly come to us and make a huge impression in our lives! Rosie was that and much more; she came into our lives when there was no one in hers. She knew how to love the Lord, and love her children fiercely! We couldnt have asked for a more trusting Angel.
Rosie is survived by her son, Christopher Woody and daughter, Christina Becker with husband James Becker, granddaughter, Alie Becker, close friend, Ruth Olivia Espinoza, and extended family of countless wonderful friends shes made in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Mexico and throughout the US. Everyone is forever her family.
