Rose Friesz, 99, of Yakima, died February 1, 2013, at Landmark Care Center. Rose was born in Lockeford, CA, in 1913, to Henry and Mary (Deg) Schneider. Her family moved to Jamestown, North Dakota, where she attended school, and then to Montana briefly, before settling in Yakima, where she met and married Jack Friesz in February 1938, and raised their five wonderful children. Rose worked in canneries and warehouses in the Yakima Valley for many years, retiring at the age of 72. You just could not keep her down. When asked what her secret to living to the age of 99 was, she would say, Im a tough old bird! Rose loved traveling, camping, and fishing, but most of all spending time with family. She had the miraculous ability to make each and every one of us feel like we were her special one. We honor our awe-inspiring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and thank her for her legacy and tireless example of what love ought to be. Surviving family includes sons: Gerald (and Sharon) Friesz, Tim (and Sharon) Friesz, and Randy (and Chris) Friesz; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren. Rose is preceded in death by her husband Jack Friesz, son Larry Friesz and daughter Verena Clifton, grandson Jason Clifton, her parents Mary and Henry Schneider, four brothers and four sisters. We would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Landmark Care Center for their wonderful care of our beautiful Rose. The family suggests memorial donations to the American Heart Association. Viewing will be offered Wednesday, February 6, 2013, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors, 201 N. 2nd Street, Yakima.
