Roy Walker Gordon Sr Obituary (2024)

Roy Walker Gordon, Sr., passed away at Willow Creek Nursing Home in Yakima on July 20, 2024, where he resided for the last six years. He was born in Vancouver, Washington but spent most of his life in Yakima. Roy graduated from A.C. Davis High School and had a career working for Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital and St. Elizabeth Hospital for over 30 years until he retired. Preceded in death, his sister Betty Joy Armstrong 1949; his daughter Latoya Genine Gordon in 1992; grandmother, Neomia Mercer 1983; his mother, Mattie Joy Mercer in 2002; his uncle, Hertie Mercer in 2007; his brother Sam Gordon, 2018; and brother Terry Mercer, 2020. He is survived by his son Roy Walker Gordon, Jr and spouse Rachel Gordon, from Yakima, grandchildren Ethan Z. Gordon, Emma K. Gordon, both in Yakima, Sharmica (Gordon) Roundtree and husband in California, Genine (Gordon) Smith and husband Damon Smith, of Yakima, several great grandchildren, his eldest brother Dale Lee Armstrong and spouse Rae (Melfort) Armstrong, of Yakima, and brother Alphonso Mercer, Sr. of Yakima, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Roy enjoyed weightlifting, jogging, fishing, hiking, traveling and loved animals.
