Wanda Corrine Leenhouts peacefully passed away on January 10th, 2018 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital with her husband, family, and loved ones by her side.
Wanda was born to Maurice and Mildred Herried (nee Haug) in Marvin, South Dakota on August 4th, 1932. Her family moved to Washington when she was a child, and she spent the majority of her life in the Yakima Valley. She had a passion for adventure, which was instilled when she traveled alone by train at the young age of 8 to visit her grandparents who resided in South Dakota.
Wanda was the epitome of love, kindness, and positivity. Despite being left a widow at the young age of 33 by her first husband Robert Yule, Sr., Wanda remained a strong woman and continued to work hard to provide for her two young children. Being the amazing catch she was, it didn't take long for her to find love again. On October 10th, 1970, Wanda married the love of her life, Roland "Dean" Leenhouts, and spent the rest of her years with him.
She always had a smile on her face, and constantly put others before herself. She was happiest when adorned in her favorite jewelry and perfume, surrounded by her friends and family. Wanda charmed everyone she met with her quick wit and infectious laugh, and will be deeply missed. She had a 20+ year long career with the Social Security Administration, and retired at the age of 58 in 1990. Upon retiring, she spent many years traveling with Dean. From horseback riding in the Cascades, to salmon fishing in Vancouver Island, Canada, to being snowbirds in Arizona and Florida, Wanda and Dean had an active lifestyle with an incredibly strong bond.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Dean, and their Boston Terrier, Tiffy; sons Robert (Colleen) Yule and Barry Yule, David (Debbie) Leenhouts and Daniel (Shelly) Leenhouts; grandchildren Lauren (Robert), Amanda and Devin (David). She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Maureen Herried, niece Kristy Yule, nephew Gary Yule, and grand-nephew Jared Barton. She was preceded in death by her parents Maurice and Mildred Herried, her brother Tim Herried, and first husband Robert Yule Sr.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 20th, 2018 at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors (201 N. 2nd St., Yakima, WA 98901) at 9:00 am. To share condolences or memories with Wanda's family please visit www.shawandsons.com.
