Director of Empathy & Community Engagement
A Beacon is a source of comfort for those in a storm. Just outside of Indianapolis, Indiana, Beacon was born and highly trained to care for the families we serve. As a hypoallergenic Australian Labradoodle, Beacon is the first in Washington State to be independently and professionally trained to serve as a Certified Therapy Dog in funeral service. Beacon greets families as they come to the funeral home and is a soothing source of calm and comfort. While on duty, you will find him dressed in his service vest and his dapper bow tie, but away from the funeral home setting, he is happy to run and exercise with the Mohler family or any of his certified handlers. With just under a full year of intense training, and with his handlers required to pass a rigorous certification class, you can be confident in knowing that Beacon has all of the training, awareness, insight, and natural instinct to best calm the emotions that you may be feeling. And for those who aren’t “dog people”, Beacon takes no offense and is glad to wander off to catch his occasional nap. Beacon has passed all of the requirements to become a Certified Facility Therapy Dog. These credentials allow him special access to care facilities, hospice settings, medical and rehab facilities, funeral homes, schools, and any place that needs the empathy only found in “man’s best friend”.
